Books, Interloans and Reciprocal BorrowingOn this pageBorrowing booksHow many books can I get out and for how long?Undergraduates: up to 15 books, issued for
3 weeks. All books are sent by courier or fastpost to you at no charge, but you must pay the return postage. Please ensure they are packed well when returning. Please note: Books on 3 Day Loan, or with one or more people waiting for them, are issued for one week to allow time for outward and return postage. These books must be returned by the due date. There are no renewals on these items. Recalled itemsItems out on loan can be recalled by any patron. If an item you have out is recalled you will need to send it back to us, the original due date will no longer be correct, and it cannot be renewed. RenewalsBooks (not required by another borrower) may be renewed twice. Call: 0800 347 826 or email us with your details. ReturnsBooks should be returned directly to Remote Library Services:
FinesFines begin to accumulate as soon as books become overdue. To avoid fines, renew books as above. The current fines structure is:
Document Delivery/ InterloansWithin New ZealandBooks and journal articles not held in this Library, but which are held in New Zealand, can be interloaned using the Remote Library Services online request form. This service is free but allow 7-10 working days for standard requests. Interloan books are available to students resident in NZ only. Interloaned books are issued for 3-4 weeks and may be renewed by contacting the Remote Services staff. They should be returned directly to Remote Library Services. OverseasInterloan items requested from overseas cost $15.00+GST per item. This may take 2-4 weeks. An invoice will be sent to you, together with the requested item. Urgent RequestsWe endeavour to obtain copies within 3-5 working days from anywhere in the world, books will take longer. Urgently requested items (from NZ or overseas) cost $25.00+GST per item. An invoice will be sent to you on receipt of the item. LimitsUndergraduate Remote Students can interloan up to 10 items each per week through Remote Library Services and Postgraduates, 20 items each per week. We cannot send interloaned books to students resident outside of New Zealand.
Reciprocal BorrowingCurrent University of Otago students and staff can now be face-to-face users of the library resources and services of all other New Zealand University Libraries (except the University of Auckland). No fees apply. The conditions, restrictions and procedures are explained in the attached document.
