What is Document Delivery and Interloan?

Document delivery enables you to obtain books and journal articles not held in the University of Otago Library from other libraries in New Zealand or overseas to support your research and teaching activities.
Interloans refers to borrowed materials, whereas Document delivery includes copies to keep. However, the two terms are often used interchangeably.

To request materials from Storage, use a Storage request form.

How do I request an Interloan?

  1. 1. Check the University of Otago catalogue to make sure we don’t hold it.
  2. 2. For loans of books, check the catalogues at Auckland University of Technology, University of Waikato and Victoria University of Wellington. You can borrow items from these libraries using our Borrow Direct service, which is usually faster than Document Delivery.
  3. 3. Fill in the Document Delivery request form
    • Provide as much detail as possible and avoid abbreviations, include page numbers for journal articles and chapter requests.
    • Use a separate form for each item
