Frances Hodgkins Fellowship Trust Collection

The Frances Hodgkins Fellowship Trust Collection has been formed over the last few years through the generous donation of art works by artists who have held the Fellowship in the past. In 1997, the Community Trust of Otago donated funds to ensure that the Fellowship could continue to be offered to practising artists, and that this extraordinary collection of works could be enjoyed by as many New Zealanders as possible. Early in March 1998, other works from the collection were installed around the University on display, and this installation in the Information Services Building means that nearly all the works are now able to be seen by the public.

The Frances Hodgkins Fellowship was established in 1962 through the generous interest of anonymous friends of the University. The general purpose of the Fellowship is to aid and encourage painters and sculptors in the practice and advancement of their art, to associate them with the life of the University, and at the same time to foster an interest in the arts within the University. The Fellowship is open to any man or woman normally resident in New Zealand who has executed sufficient work to show that he or she possesses some talent as a painter or sculptor, and as a serious artist will benefit from the tenure of the Fellowship.
