DISTANCE LEARNERS
The Distance Library Service is here to assist students studying through the Otago Polytechnic living outside Dunedin.
What the Library Can do For You
We can:
- Lend you books
- Scan articles from periodicals held in the Library and email them to you.
- Scan book chapters and email them to you.
- Request interloans from other libraries for material we do not hold
Accessing Databases
You can access a number of electronic databases covering a range of subjects including health sciences, veterinary nursing and design from the Database & Article Searching page.
You will be prompted to enter your Polytech username and password. Phone 0800 347 826 or email distance.library@otago.ac.nz if you need assistance using the databases.
How Do I Make a Request?
When requesting material please use the online
Distance Request Form. A separate form is required for each request.
You may request a maximum of 20 items per week.
How Do I Ask For a Book?
Use the Distance Request Form
If the book is in, we will issue it to you and send it to the address you have given us. If the book is not in, we will reserve it for you and send it on.
Returning Books
The due date is attached to the book. If you want to renew it, please contact us before the due date. Fines are charged for overdue material. We will send you a FreePost address sticker for you to return the books to us free of charge.
How Do I Ask For a Periodical Article?
Use the Distance Request Form
If the article is available in the Library, we will photocopy or scan the article and either post or email it to you. This is yours to keep.
